BECOME A MEMBER
Becoming a member of the tool library is the simplest and most effective way to get involved and show your support...while getting access to hundreds of tools, trainings, and more member benefits to come....
DONATE TOOLS
Tools donated to Toolshed become resources for the entire community. We have a broad definition of “tools,” including a range of items useful for building, fixing, and making projects of all kinds. Things that for one person are too expensive to purchase, too bulky to store, or too specialized to be commonly used—all make great additions to a tool library.
All donated tools should be in good working condition and must be pre-approved by emailing details about the donation to exchange@tool-shed.org. Please note that we cannot accept every tool and we reserve the right to turn away, redistribute, or sell any tools that we are unable to use, fix, or store.
DONATE TIME (VOLUNTEER)
Volunteers help keep Toolshed’s doors open, its tools in good working order, and its workshops running smoothly. They may also help with translation and making sure all parts of the community know about the resources Toolshed provides. Email exchange@tool-shed.org and let us know your interest, skills & background, and availability. We are actively seeking volunteers for the following positions:
Volunteer librarians do not need experience with tools, but should be passionate about our mission and values. They may helping members with checkouts, renewals, class registrations, and questions.
Tool fixers have experience with tools and a little bit of fix-it know-how, and they work independently to help maintain our inventory in good working order.
Do you have an idea for a class you could teach? Expertise in a certain building trade, craft, or other jobs or hobbies? We’d love to provide a venue for you to share your knowledge with others.
Event volunteers help keep all events running smoothly, whether it’s annual Tool Donation Drive, regular Fix-It Fairs, workshops, or other events. All you need is a good attitude and a willingness to help.
DONATE MONEY
If you can, please consider supporting Toolshed financially. This can be done several ways:
Become a member using our sliding scale annual membership option, with a suggested donation of $1 dollar for every $1,000 of annual income. We encourage potential donors to support the project by becoming part of the membership, just like everyone else. We may be coming from different places, but we can all pitch in according to our means. Even if you don't use the tools very much, you'll always know they're there for you, and that you're also helping to make them available to the community.
Sponsor a Membership, purchasing a gift membership that someone else in the community can use. (You don't need to be a member to purchase a Gift Certificate for someone else.)
Donate any amount using Toolshed's online giving form.
Your support helps us get tools into the hands of those who need them.
This project has been supported by a grant from Partners for Climate Action Hudson Valley and the Fund for Columbia County of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. Additional support for tool procurement has also been provided by Herrington's Lumber, Stewart's Shops, and Williams Lumber. Toolshed is a fiscally sponsored project of Basilica Arts, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Basilica also provides a physical site for Toolshed operations at their campus in Hudson, New York.
